Check a UIN for France: the format, the register, the usual refusals

Updated 15 October 2026 · by Bachir Djebaili, founder of REP·Pro

Direct answer: A French registration number reads FR, six digits, an underscore, two digits (FRxxxxxx_xx). It belongs to one company and one category and is listed in ADEME's public register. Amazon's format check refuses a mistyped number, a foreign number, or a number of another category. This page explains how to read a number and where the register is; it never says that a number is valid or not: that answer belongs to the register and to the eco-organisation.

The format

FR, six digits, _, two digits. The six digits identify the company's file; the two digits after the underscore distinguish its registrations, one per scheme. Amazon's screen checks the shape of the number and, as its pages describe, may compare it with the register.

The public register

ADEME publishes the producers holding a unique identifier as open data: data.ademe.fr (read on 15 October 2026). It shows, for each number, the company, the scheme and the eco-organisation. If a supplier gives you a number, that is where to read whose it is.

The usual refusals, line by line

What Amazon showsWhat it usually meansWhat to read

This page does not say that a number is valid, invalid or missing, and does not say which category your products fall under. It is you who determine that. Should you choose to register through a representative established in France, the tunnel starts here.

FAQ

Why was my number refused by Amazon?

The usual causes, as Amazon's pages describe them: a format other than FRxxxxxx_xx, a number of another category entered in this line, a number of another company (a supplier's), or a number not found in the register. Read the register, then re-enter the number in the right line.

Can I check a number here?

No. This page is information only. The public register at ADEME shows what a number is attached to.

Is a German or Spanish number valid for the French line?

No. EPR registration is national; the French line expects the French number.
